RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Alex Telles converted a late penalty as Botafogo salvaged a 2-2 away draw with Cruzeiro in Brazil's Serie A on Thursday.
Midfielder Christian Cardoso opened the scoring for the hosts in the 15th minute by heading home after Luis Sinisterra's cross.
Matheus Pereira doubled the lead early in the second half, tapping in from close range after Kaio Jorge's long-range effort was parried away by goalkeeper Raul Steffens.
Botafogo pulled a goal back just before the hour through Fernando Marcal, who latched onto David Ricardo's cross to head in from the edge of the six-yard box.
Former Manchester United defender Telles equalized from the penalty spot in the 95th minute after Marcal was brought down by Kaiki Bruno.
The result leaves Botafogo seventh in the 20-team Serie A standings while Cruzeiro remains third with one matchday remaining. ■
