LJUBLJANA, Dec. 4 (Xinhua)-- More than three quarters of companies in Slovenia are encountering obstacles in their efforts to digitalize business operations, with the proportion continuing to rise in recent years, the Slovenian Statistics Office reported on Thursday.

According to the data, 76 percent of enterprises with 10 or more employees, including the self-employed, face challenges in digital transformation, up from 60 percent in 2021.

Difficulties were reported across all company sizes, affecting 75 percent of small firms, 80 percent of medium-sized firms and 82 percent of large firms. By sector, 77 percent of manufacturing companies and 75 percent of service providers indicated similar problems.

A shortage of qualified staff or digital expertise remains the most common barrier, cited by 56 percent of companies. Insufficient financial resources and slow adaptation of management or organizational processes followed, each reported by 41 percent of respondents.

Despite these challenges, 53 percent of companies said digital transformation is not essential for their business success. This view was shared by 57 percent of small firms, 39 percent of medium-sized firms and 20 percent of large firms.

The report also showed that two thirds of small and medium-sized companies have achieved at least a basic level of digital maturity, reflecting their use of information and communication technologies.

Under the European Union's Digital Decade targets and Slovenia's national Digital Slovenia strategy, 90 percent of companies are expected to reach at least a basic level of digital maturity by 2030, the Statistics Office said.
