ABU DHABI, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Zayed National Museum, the national museum of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), opened to the public here on Wednesday.
Designed by renowned British architect Norman Foster, the museum features over 1,500 objects across six permanent galleries, showcasing the UAE's history, heritage and the legacy of its founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, according to a statement by the Abu Dhabi Media Office.
Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism-Abu Dhabi, said the museum "tells the unfolding story of the land and its people," and will serve as a world-class center for research and learning, according to the statement.
The museum is the centerpiece of Saadiyat Cultural District, and blends archaeological artifacts with multimedia and contemporary installations. ■
