BEIJING, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.42 percent to 3,897.71 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.68 percent lower at 13,056.7 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 1.59 trillion yuan (about 224.6 billion U.S. dollars) -- down from 1.87 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to food and commercial spaceflight led the gains, while energy, non-ferrous metals and film sectors saw notable declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.69 percent to close at 3,071.15 points. ■
