KABUL, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Two passengers lost their lives and five others were injured when their vehicle veered off the road and flipped in western Afghanistan's Herat province, the provincial hospital said in a statement on Monday.
The mishap occurred Sunday evening along the Herat-Islam Qala highway, after a passenger vehicle turned turtle due to reckless driving, killing two people on the spot and injuring five others, according to the statement.
Earlier, three commuters were killed and one was injured when a car overturned due to the driver's negligence in eastern Logar province on Friday.
Road accidents remain a leading cause of fatalities across Afghanistan, driven by poor road infrastructure, reckless driving, challenging terrain, and factors such as overloading, dangerous overtaking, and excessive speed. ■
