KABUL, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Three people, including a woman and a child, were killed and five others injured in a road accident in eastern Afghanistan's Laghman province, the provincial police office said late Thursday.
The accident took place in Kakakh region along the main highway linking the capital Kabul to eastern provinces, after a passenger vehicle collided with another coming from the opposite direction, leaving three dead, including a woman and a child, on the spot and five injured, according to the statement.
Reckless driving was cited as the primary cause of the incident.
This accident marks the third fatal road crash in Afghanistan over the past week. On Tuesday, nine people were killed and 16 others injured when their vehicle veered off a mountain road and plunged into a ravine in northern Faryab province.
Earlier, on Sunday, a head-on collision between two vehicles in western Herat province claimed 10 lives and injured more than 10 others.
Road accidents remain a persistent and deadly problem across Afghanistan, primarily due to dilapidated road conditions, reckless driving, overloading of vehicles, excessive speeding, and hazardous terrain. ■
