DAMASCUS, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- At least nine people were killed in an Israeli attack on the Syrian town of Beit Jinn after troops clashed with residents upon entering the town, Syrian state media reported Friday.
Syrian state-run Al-Ekhbariya TV said the strikes targeted residential areas shortly after an Israeli military patrol reportedly entered Beit Jinn, where it was surrounded by residents, triggering an exchange of fire before the patrol withdrew.
The report said Israeli aircraft carried out multiple raids following the incident and continued heavy flights over the area as of Friday morning.
It added that the victims included civilians, though no official statement has been released on the number of the wounded or the full extent of the damage.
Israeli forces later withdrew from the town and took up positions on Bat al-Warda hill on the outskirts of Beit Jinn, the report said. ■
