VIENTIANE, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Laos recorded an inflation rate of 4.8 percent in November, a slight increase from 4 percent in October, according to the latest report from the Lao Statistics Bureau.
According to a report released by the bureau on Thursday, the highest price rise in November was recorded in the goods and services category, which stood at 26.4 percent.
Other categories driving inflation included the housing, water, electricity and gas category at 18 percent, the medical care and medicines category at 13.5 percent, and the education category at 11.6 percent.
Speaking at the 10th ordinary session of the Lao National Assembly's ninth legislature in November, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone reaffirmed the government's commitment to prioritizing inflation control. He said the government will strengthen mechanisms and measures to tackle unresolved issues, including boosting domestic production for local consumption and export in order to reduce imports and limit foreign currency outflow.
Sonexay added that the government will work to increase foreign currency reserves to ease exchange rate and inflation pressures. ■
