JAKARTA -- 13 people have died after floods and landslides struck seven regencies and cities in Indonesia's North Sumatra province, the Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said Wednesday.

KABUL -- At least nine people were killed and 16 others injured when their vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a deep ravine in northern Afghanistan's Faryab province, a local official said late Tuesday.

The accident occurred in Pashtun Kot district on Tuesday afternoon after the vehicle lost control on a steep path, resulting in the immediate deaths of nine commuters, including women and children, and injuries to 16 others, said Mawlawi Shamsuddin Mohammadi, provincial director of the information and culture department.
