SARAJEVO, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Heavy overnight rainfall triggered flooding and landslides across Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), especially in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, authorities said Wednesday.
Rising water on the Drezanka River near Mostar, the capital city of the canton, threatened homes and forced one family to evacuate. Flooding also hit Bugojno, where several houses were inundated.
A major landslide closed the M-17.5 road between Jablanica and Blidinje, and traffic is difficult on other routes. Emergency flood measures are in place on several rivers, including the Neretva.
The Sava River Basin Agency warned of an emergency hydrological situation from Nov. 25-27, with more rainfall expected to raise water levels across the region.
BiH frequently experiences seasonal flooding, especially in mountainous areas, due to sudden increases in river levels following heavy rainfall. ■
