SEOUL, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's retail sale rose in single digits last month due to solid online demand for food, daily necessities and service, government data showed Wednesday.

The combined revenue among major offline and online retailers increased 6.7 percent in October from a year earlier, lower than a growth of 7.7 percent in the previous month, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources.

Revenue of online retailers gained 6.8 percent in the cited month, while sales by offline retailers swelled 6.6 percent in October after retreating 3.1 percent in August and 1.0 percent in September.

Food demand in cyberspace jumped 12.6 percent, and online sales of daily necessities expanded 4.6 percent.

Online demand for service, including travel, food delivery and e-coupon purchase, mounted 8.6 percent, with sales of home appliances and cosmetics growing in single digits.

Offline sales of home appliances, clothing, sports items, food, daily necessities and service increased in single figures thanks to the long Chuseok holiday, the South Korean version of Thanksgiving Day.

Revenue among discount outlets and department stores climbed 9.3 percent and 12.2 percent each, while sales in convenience stores kept an upward trend for the fourth straight month.
