KABUL, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's Ministry of Education has constructed 1,315 school buildings across the country over the past four years in a continued push to improve access to education, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported on Saturday.
According to the report, the ministry has recently completed an additional 179 modern schools and six religious schools across 21 provinces. The combined value of these new facilities exceeds 32 million U.S. dollars.
The construction efforts were financed through the Ministry of Education's budget as well as support from various aid organizations, the report said.
These projects aim to address long-standing shortages of proper school facilities, particularly in rural areas where students have often studied in tents, open fields, or damaged buildings. ■
