HONG KONG, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- John Lee, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), commended Hong Kong athletes for their excellent performance and perseverance at the 15th National Games.
The 15th National Games concluded on Friday. It was the first time that the National Games was jointly hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.
Lee said that since its return to the motherland, Hong Kong has participated as a host city for the first time in the motherland's highest-level and largest-scale multisport event, marking a significant milestone in the city's sports development.
At the National Games, Hong Kong athletes have achieved historic results with a total of 19 medals, including nine gold, two silver, and eight bronze medals.
The HKSAR has sent its largest-ever delegation to the National Games, and people were thrilled to see Hong Kong athletes give their utmost in the competitions and fully demonstrate their abilities, Lee said.■
