NAGAON, India, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Paddy rice in Nagaon district of India's northeastern state of Assam has ripened at this time of the year. Local farmers geared up to harvest the golden paddy crops as they tirelessly bent over to cut the grain with sickles and carried bundles of paddy rice on the trails.

Rice is the most significant crop in Assam, occupying a remarkable planted area of 2.54 million hectares and accounting for about 96 percent of the state's entire production of cereal grains.
