MADRID, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has agreed to change the date of the Copa del Rey final to avoid a clash with two major events in and around Seville.
The final was due to be held in the Estadio de la Cartuja on April 25, but that date coincides with the traditional Seville Fair (Feria de Sevilla), which brings a massive influx of tourists into the city, while the same weekend also sees the Moto GP, Spanish Grand Prix, which also attracts tens of thousands of extra visitors to nearby Jerez.
The Spanish government warned the RFEF about potential logistical complications, including transport pressure and a shortage of hotel rooms. The government delegate for the region said essential services face "high stress during the Fair, especially in terms of security, mobility and transport."
"The coincidence with another event with high numbers of people, such as the Copa del Rey final, further increases these needs," commented the delegate.
Seville's city council said it is "working hand in hand with the Federation" and examining all possible alternatives.
So far, it is not certain when the final will be held. ■
