COLOMBO, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka on Thursday held a ground-breaking ceremony for a new cargo inspection center at the Hambantota International Port.
According to project officials, the construction is expected to be completed within five to six months, enabling the facility to begin operations by April 2026.
Hambantota International Port Group anticipates that container handling volumes at the port will rise to 2 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units by 2027, and the center will support the port's development plans and help meet this projection. ■
