KABUL, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Afghan police have uncovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a recent search operation in northern Afghanistan's Faryab Province, provincial spokesman Mawlawi Abdullah Muradi said on Wednesday.
According to the official, police launched the operation after receiving a tip-off and subsequently discovered a range of weapons, including 36 pistols, 28 pieces of military equipment, two carbines, two Kalashnikov rifles, five hunting shotguns, and thousands of bullets.
The official did not mention any arrests in connection with the case so far. The confiscated arms were collected and transferred for documentation and further investigation.
Security forces across Afghanistan have intensified efforts in recent months to locate illegal weapons and crack down on criminal activity. Authorities in several provinces have conducted similar operations aimed at improving public safety and preventing the circulation of illicit arms. ■
