AMMAN, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed the draft UN Security Council resolution on Gaza ahead of a scheduled vote on Monday, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry said.
In a phone call, the ministers stressed the need for the resolution to reinforce the ceasefire in Gaza and enable the proposed international stabilization force to operate effectively, the ministry said.
They also reviewed efforts to sustain the ceasefire and called for full compliance with its terms, including the immediate and sufficient delivery of humanitarian aid.
Safadi and Abdelatty said stabilizing the situation requires a clear political path toward a just and comprehensive peace based on a two-state solution, with an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borderlines and East Jerusalem as its capital.
The ministers also discussed preparations for the upcoming International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza, which will be held in Egypt, saying regional and international support will be essential for rebuilding and easing the humanitarian crisis.
The UN Security Council is expected to vote Monday on a U.S.-drafted resolution on Gaza. ■
