SINGAPORE, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said Monday that heavy traffic is expected at the two land checkpoints linking Malaysia during the upcoming year-end school holidays, from this Friday through Jan. 1, 2026.
The ICA noted that the recent Deepavali festival long weekend, from Oct. 17 to 20, saw nearly 2 million travelers cross the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints. At the peak, more than 550,000 travelers cleared immigration in a single day.
Car travelers who departed during peak hours experienced waiting times of up to three hours due to traffic tailbacks from Malaysia, the authority added.
With the school holidays approaching, the ICA will also be stepping up checks against the smuggling of e-vaporizers. As a result, travelers may encounter longer waiting times at immigration. The ICA asked for travelers' understanding and cooperation, and reminded them to observe traffic rules and maintain lane discipline. ■
