KABUL, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces discovered a cache of ammunition in Khak-e-Jabbar district southeast of the capital Kabul, the Ministry of National Defense announced in a statement late Sunday.
Acting on intelligence and a tip-off, personnel uncovered the depot containing 18 BM-21 rockets and 21 additional rocket rounds during an operation in the Tangi Darband Batokhail area of the district, the statement said.
No arrests were reported in connection with the discovery.
The ministry emphasized that authorities will not tolerate illegal possession of ammunition or military equipment.
In a separate operation on Sunday, police in southern Helmand province seized a cache of weapons and ammunition and arrested one suspect.
Since assuming power in August 2021, the Afghan government has collected thousands of weapons and large stockpiles of ammunition nationwide as part of efforts to enhance security and stability in the over four decades of war-torn country. ■
