NEW DELHI, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Indian Consulate General in Jeddah issued a statement on Monday saying that a road accident involving Indian pilgrims occurred late on Sunday near Medinah, Saudi Arabia. According to multiple Indian media reports, the accident had resulted in at least 42 deaths.
The Saudi General Authority of Transport said on social media on Monday that the Medinah regional transport department was handling a traffic accident involving a tanker truck and a passenger bus.
According to media reports, the bus, carrying 43 passengers, collided with a diesel tanker. The deceased were charred to death at the spot of the accident, added the media reports.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the deaths, saying in a post on X that he was "deeply saddened by the accident." "My thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones," he said. ■
