VIENTIANE, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- The 12th National Games, Lao's largest sporting event, officially opened on Saturday with a grand ceremony at the National Stadium in Lao capital Vientiane.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Atsaphangthong Siphandone, governor of Vientiane, emphasized that the event serves as a platform for promoting public health, friendship, and national sportsmanship.
The opening ceremony also featured vibrant sectoral parades and cultural performances, including boat-racing demonstrations and Lao traditional dances.
The 12th National Games will run from November 15 to 25, featuring 33 sports and involving 9,485 participants, including athletes, coaches, referees, technicians, and officials. ■
