MANILA, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Charoen Pokphand Foods Philippines Corp. (CPF), a key player in the country's hog industry, is undertaking a five-year, 1-billion-U.S.-dollar expansion plan to boost hog production, the Philippine Department of Agriculture said Thursday.

The CPF aims to raise its hog production capacity from 1.3 million heads currently to 7 million by 2030, it said.

Data showed that the country's swine population has dropped from 13 million to around 8 million heads since the first outbreak of African Swine Fever in 2019.

The department said it has launched a repopulation plan that includes vaccination against the disease and the distribution of breeder pigs to reach pre-outbreak levels within the next three years.
