KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia will promote recycled water and cooling technologies, as well as manage high water usage in heavy industries by reviewing tariff structures, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof said on Thursday.
These measures are in line with the nation's ambition to become a regional data center hub, Fadillah, who is also minister of energy transition and water transformation, said in his opening speech at the 3rd Sustainability Environment Asia conference.
"The utilization of reclaimed water for cloud operations sets a powerful global example of how technology companies can contribute meaningfully to climate goals while reinforcing Malaysia's position as a regional digital hub," he said.
"It sets a new benchmark for the management of water resources in an innovation-driven economy -- a model that is cohesive, proactive, and anchored in long-term sustainability," he said.
Fadillah added that Malaysia has exceeded its 2025 renewable energy target ahead of schedule, reflecting the country's strong momentum, and is expanding solar, hydro, waste-to-energy, and green hydrogen solutions while maintaining natural gas as a transition fuel. ■
