BELEM, Brazil, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian presidency of the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) reported initial progress in climate negotiations on Wednesday, emphasizing a "constructive spirit" among participating delegations.

At a press briefing marking the second day of talks in Belem, the Amazonian capital of Para state, COP30 President Andre Correa do Lago, executive director Ana Toni, chief strategist Tulio Andrade, and Brazilian Foreign Ministry climate director Liliam Chagas provided an overview of the discussions underway since the conference opened on Monday.

Chagas said that negotiations resumed in earnest on Tuesday following Monday's plenary sessions and have so far maintained "a positive tone in all rooms." Early exchanges focused on advancing key priorities while reinforcing multilateral cooperation, she noted.

One of the key objectives is for delegates to make measurable progress on climate adaptation, including selecting up to 100 indicators to guide the Global Goal on Adaptation. This goal is a key commitment under the Paris Agreement of 2015 to enhance adaptive capacity and bolster global climate resilience.

Other central agenda items include continued efforts on the Just Transition Work Programme and discussions on implementing the outcomes of the first Global Stocktake under the Paris Agreement.

COP30, which runs through Nov. 21, brings together representatives from nearly 200 countries and regions to accelerate action on mitigation, adaptation and financing within the UN climate framework.
