KABUL, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Health authorities in northern Afghanistan's Samangan province have collected and destroyed a large quantity of expired and low-quality medicines accumulated over the past year, the provincial public health office said in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the confiscated medicines were incinerated on Tuesday as part of a broader campaign to ensure the safety and quality of pharmaceutical products available in local markets. A supervisory health team in Samangan regularly conducts inspections across districts to monitor pharmacies and identify substandard or expired drugs.

The provincial health office emphasized that no individual or business would be permitted to sell expired medicines or food products, warning that violators will face legal consequences.

Over recent months, similar operations have been carried out in Kabul, Kandahar, and several other provinces, where expired drugs and food items have been publicly destroyed.
