KABUL, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Two water supply networks were inaugurated on Monday in western Afghanistan's Badghis province, the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA) reported on Tuesday.
Constructed at a cost of 14.5 million afghanis (around 218,050 U.S. dollars), the networks will provide drinking water to more than 1,000 families, the state-owned media outlet added.
Post-war Afghanistan has been facing a water shortage due to years of drought. The problem is even more tangible in big cities, including the capital Kabul, where long queues can be seen daily at water taps and wells.
To overcome the problem, the Afghan government has announced plans to manage water resources and bring water to Kabul from nearby rivers in the near future. ■
