KABUL, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- The counter-narcotics police have seized a quantity of illicit drugs and arrested a suspected trafficker in northern Afghanistan's Badakhshan province, provincial police spokesman Ehsanullah Kamgar confirmed on Tuesday.
The suspect was apprehended while attempting to transport a vehicle loaded with hashish from Warduj district to Baharak district.
The confiscated narcotics were later set ablaze in public under police supervision, Kamgar said, adding that the operation reflects the government's ongoing commitment to combating the production and trafficking of illegal drugs.
Badakhshan province, located in northern Afghanistan's mountainous region, has witnessed intensified anti-narcotics operations in recent months as part of broader national efforts to curb drug smuggling and related criminal activities. ■
