ISTANBUL, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police detained 12 suspects on Tuesday in simultaneous raids targeting the Islamic State (IS), state media reported.
Counterterrorism teams conducted coordinated raids at 17 locations in nine districts across Istanbul, seizing a large amount of digital material and organizational documents, according to the state-run TRT broadcaster.
Police found that the suspects had been using a closed, internet-based instant messaging app to distribute propaganda content, including bomb-making training videos.
They also shared pro-IS materials on social media and were believed to be seeking to carry out terrorist acts, the report said.
Police seized firearms and ammunition during the searches at those locations.
Türkiye designated IS a terrorist organization in 2013 and has since suffered multiple attacks carried out by the group. In response, Ankara has conducted numerous counterterrorism operations both at home and abroad. ■
