KABUL, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities inaugurated the construction of three new school buildings in Qalat city, the provincial capital of southern Afghanistan's Zabul province, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, the projects, which cost over 1 million U.S. dollars, were designed in a modern style and equipped with all necessary educational facilities.
The initiative aims to improve access to education and provide a better learning environment for local students who previously lacked adequate school infrastructure, the report added.
Education in Afghanistan has faced numerous challenges over the past decades due to prolonged conflict, limited infrastructure, and economic difficulties. In many rural and southern provinces, including Zabul, a lack of proper school buildings has forced students to study in open spaces or temporary structures. ■
