BRATISLAVA, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Two trains collided on Sunday evening in western Slovakia, leaving at least 18 people injured, the News Agency of the Slovak Republic (TASR) reported.

The collision occurred between the town of Pezinok in the Bratislava region and the capital city Bratislava. State-run passenger carrier ZSSK said it is working with railway infrastructure operator ZSR, police, and emergency services to manage the situation.

The injured have been transported to four hospitals under the Bratislava University Hospital (UNB), according to TASR.

Train services in the area have been disrupted, and a gradual return to full operation is expected, said ZSSK.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
