THE HAGUE, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- The 22-year-old Feyenoord midfielder Luciano Valente was selected in the Dutch senior national football team on Friday as coach Ronald Koeman announced his squad for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Poland and Lithuania.
Valente played eight times for the U-21 team this year, scoring four goals. He was also part of the squad that participated in the UEFA European U-21 Championship in Slovakia in June.
In the 25-player list, Matthijs de Ligt, Lutsharel Geertruida and Noa Lang returned after having missed the previous games against Malta and Finland. Jeremie Frimpong and Mexx Meerdink pulled out through injury, while Stefan de Vrij and Teun Koopmeiners were left out by Koeman.
The Netherlands will visit Poland on November 14 and host Lithuania three days later. Leading Group G with a three-point advantage over Poland, the Netherlands will directly qualify for next summer's World Cup with a win in Warsaw. ■
