ANKARA, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye targets a total investment of 80 billion U.S. dollars in renewable energy by 2035 to address increasing electricity demand, a cabinet minister said Friday.

As part of the plan, Türkiye aims to increase its installed wind and solar capacity to 120,000 megawatts, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said during a presentation at the parliament's budget discussions for 2026.

"We held our annual 2,000 megawatt YEKA (Renewable Energy Resource Zone) tenders at the beginning of this year. To achieve our goal, we will continue to hold at least 2,000 megawatts of YEKA tenders each year until 2035," he added.

According to the minister, the investment will be directed to support domestic coal-fired power plants, and improve grid infrastructure, including the construction of new high-voltage transmission lines and transformer substations.

Türkiye is also ramping up its efforts in developing nuclear energy. The minister noted that under Türkiye's "net zero" emissions target, the country plans to reach 7,200 megawatts of nuclear capacity by 2035 and 20,000 megawatts by 2050.
