COLOMBO, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka imported vehicles worth more than 1.2 billion U.S. dollars during the first nine months of 2025, state media reported Monday.

According to the state-owned Daily News, vehicle imports in September alone amounted to 286 million dollars.

The surge in vehicle imports has contributed to a widening of the merchandise account deficit in September, the report said.

Sri Lanka resumed vehicle imports for both personal and commercial use in 2025, following strict restrictions imposed in 2020.
