LJUBLJANA, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia's annual inflation rose to 3.1 percent in October from 2.6 percent in September, reaching its highest level since March 2024, the Statistical Office said Thursday.
Goods prices increased faster than service prices year-on-year for the first time since May 2023, with goods up 3.3 percent and services up 2.7 percent.
The sharpest rises came from food and non-alcoholic beverages, up 6.8 percent, and housing, water, electricity and gas, which rose 4.2 percent. Clothing, footwear and communications edged down 0.1 percent each.
On a monthly basis, overall prices were unchanged, as higher costs for clothing, fuels and food were offset by cheaper package holidays, accommodation and insurance.
The office said higher wages, which rose nearly 7 percent in the first eight months of the year following a public sector wage reform, have contributed to price pressures.
To curb inflation, the government last week cut household electricity taxes for four months starting in November, ahead of the general election scheduled for March. ■
