VIENNA, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Any explosive nuclear weapon test by any State would be harmful and destabilizing for global non-proliferation efforts and for international peace and security, said an international nuclear-test-ban official on Thursday.

"I am aware of recent public remarks that draw attention to ongoing concerns about nuclear weapons testing," Robert Floyd, executive secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, said in a statement.

Floyd said he saw in the current situation an opportunity for world leaders to work towards the ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) and a world free from nuclear weapons testing.

The organization's monitoring system stands ready to detect the tests and provide the data to CTBT States Signatories, he said.

The CTBT, with an aim to "ban all nuclear explosions everywhere, by everyone, and for all time," has not yet entered into force, as it has not been ratified by all 44 States listed in its Annex 2 and nine ratifications are still required.
