MOSCOW, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that Russians are not consuming enough fish and seafood, calling for improved processing and transportation to make seafood more accessible and affordable across the country.

Russia possesses unique marine resources, Putin said, adding that it is crucial not only to harvest these resources, but also to ensure their processing and transportation.

He pointed out that fish and seafood consumption in Russia remains below the level recommended by Russia's Ministry of Health.

In Kamchatka, a major fishing region in Russia's Far East, fishermen have caught over 250,000 tonnes of salmon this year, accounting for 75 percent of Russia's total salmon harvest, Kamchatka Governor Vladimir Solodov said.

By the end of the 2025 fishing season, the total catch of aquatic biological resources is expected to reach 1.5 million tonnes, twice what it was in the early 2010s, he added.
