KABUL, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Afghan counter-narcotics forces have seized 956 kg of opium poppy in eastern Afghanistan's Parwan province, according to a statement released by the provincial police office on Thursday.
The contraband was hidden inside an oil tanker and identified in the Jabal Saraj district. When the vehicle was halted, the driver managed to flee, and security forces have since intensified efforts to apprehend him, said the statement.
The statement noted that over the past three months, security forces have confiscated around 1,100 kg of various types of narcotics and eradicated 30 acres of poppy cultivation as part of the broader anti-drug campaign in the province.
The Afghan government, which banned poppy cultivation, drug processing, and trafficking in April 2022, has vowed to fight the menace until the country becomes a drug-free nation. ■
