BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- About 72 percent of Brunei's total land area is covered by forests, of which 21 percent are wetlands, a senior official said on Wednesday.
Among the country's natural heritage and priceless ecosystem is Pulau Selirong Forest Recreation Park, which is being considered a strong candidate for inclusion in the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance, said Noralinda Haji Ibrahim, deputy permanent secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism.
Noralinda said wetlands play a crucial role in sustaining biodiversity, regulating the climate, and protecting communities against natural disasters.
