LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Council of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) on Monday approved Strategy 2025-2032 and launched the sixth review of international federations' governance to support good governance across its member associations.

The Council met for the first time since its new composition was elected in June, ahead of the 2025 International Federation Forum in Lausanne, to set direction for strengthening the collective influence and effectiveness of the IFs.

The priorities of ASOIF's strategy are "Advocacy, Influence and Representation," "Olympic Games Excellence" and "Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing." The strategy will be officially launched in early 2026, ASOIF said.

ASOIF President Ingmar De Vos said in a statement: "I am very pleased the Council has embraced the new strategy, which has our members' priorities and needs at its heart. It also continues to prioritise IF governance, which is the most important to protect the IFs' values, credibility and autonomy. We will share the details with our members soon and then commence the implementation phase in early 2026."

To strengthen governance, member federations must complete a self-evaluation questionnaire in January 2026, which will be reviewed and moderated by independent sports governance consultancy I Trust Sport. The sixth review officially began on October 22, with results to be published in summer 2026.

The Council appointed International Volleyball Federation President Fabio Azevedo as ASOIF's representative on the World Anti-Doping Agency Foundation Board for the term from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2028.

Council members were also updated on preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games, as well as the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.

The 50th ASOIF General Assembly will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on May 26, 2026.
