KABUL, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Afghan counter-narcotics police have seized 34 kg of illegal drugs and detained 24 suspected smugglers in separate operations across multiple provinces, the office of the deputy minister of interior for counter-narcotics announced on Sunday.
In one operation on the outskirts of Deh Salah district in northern Baghlan province, authorities detained two individuals and confiscated 16 kg of hashish and opium poppy. In a separate raid in northern Jawzjan province, 10 suspects were apprehended with 18 kg of narcotics, according to the office.
Additionally, police have taken into custody 12 more individuals involved in drug smuggling, purchasing, and selling in the eastern provinces of Khost, Parwan, Kapisa, and Paktika, it said.
The Afghan government has intensified its efforts to combat illicit drugs, pledging to eradicate poppy cultivation and the production of substances used in heroin manufacturing across the country. ■
