VILNIUS, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- LTG Infra, the infrastructure branch of Lithuanian Railways, has signed contracts worth 375.8 million euros (435.6 million U.S. dollars) to build a new section of the Rail Baltica line linking the country with Latvia, the government said Thursday.

The 36.7-kilometer stretch will run from the northern city of Panevezys toward the Latvian border. Construction will be carried out by two Lithuanian companies, Kauno Tiltai and HISK.

Under the contracts, builders will construct bridges, overpasses, animal crossings, and noise barriers, with work due for completion between 2028 and 2030.

Rail Baltica, a high-speed European-gauge railway, aims to connect the Baltic states with the rest of Europe. The Lithuanian and Polish networks are expected to be linked by 2028, with full completion of the line scheduled for 2030. (1 euro = 1.16 U.S. dollar)
