BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- China congratulates Rodrigo Paz Pereira on his election as president of Bolivia, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Tuesday.
According to media reports, Paz won the presidential runoff election in Bolivia on Oct. 19 local time.
"China believes that under the leadership of President Paz, Bolivia will continue to make new achievements in its national construction," the spokesperson said at a regular press briefing when responding to a relevant question.
Noting that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Bolivia, Guo said that Bolivia is China's strategic partner, and that China is willing to make joint efforts with Bolivia's new administration to promote the continuous development of bilateral relations and bring more benefits to the two peoples. ■
