TOKYO, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks surged on Monday with the benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, ending up 1,603.35 points, or 3.37 percent, higher at 49,185.50.
AI-related names led the advance ahead of the upcoming earnings season, with SoftBank Group hitting a fresh post-split all-time high. Other major gainers included Advantest, Tokyo Electron, Fujikura, Fast Retailing, Fanuc, and Toyota.
The TOPIX index also rose 2.46 percent to close the day at 3,248.45. ■
