SEOUL, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export volume grew for the eighth consecutive month due to solid demand for electronic products, central bank data showed Friday.

The export volume index jumped 14.4 percent in September from a year earlier, continuing to go up since February, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

In terms of volume, shipments for computers, electronic and optical devices soared 16.9 percent in September on a yearly basis, maintaining a double-digit growth for the seventh straight month.

Export volume for chemicals and transport equipment recorded a double-digit increase, with those for oil products, metal products, machinery and electrical equipment rising in single figures.

The export value index advanced 12.0 percent in September compared to the same month of last year, keeping an upward trend for the fourth successive month.

The import volume index surged 13.7 percent in the cited month, while the import value index gained 7.8 percent.

The net terms-of-trade index for goods, or a ratio of export price to import price, was up 3.2 percent in September on a yearly basis on the back of a faster fall in import price than export price.
