BUCHAREST, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Moldova's Constitutional Court on Thursday confirmed the results of the Sept. 28 parliamentary elections, validating the mandates of all 101 new lawmakers and clearing the way for the formation of a new government.
According to the final tally, the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) secured 55 seats, giving it a clear majority in the unicameral parliament. The Patriotic Electoral Bloc followed with 26 seats, the Alternative Bloc won eight, and Our Party and the Democracy at Home Party obtained six each.
Under the Constitution, the new parliament will be legally constituted once convened by the president within 30 days after the election. Lawmakers will then have 10 days to elect parliamentary leadership and form factions.
PAS has announced economist and businessman Alexandru Munteanu as its candidate for prime minister, positioning the party to form the next government independently. Moldova's parliament serves a four-year term. ■
