KABUL, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- The post-war Afghanistan has harvested more than 1.35 million tons of melon in the current year, the country's Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) said.
"The melon harvest has surpassed 1,358,000 tons this year in Afghanistan," the Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA) reported on Wednesday, citing a MAIL statement.
The largest melon harvests, according to the state-owned media outlet, were registered in Badghis, Balkh, Herat, Jawzjan, Kandahar, Zabul, and Nangarhar provinces.
Melon and watermelon have been regarded as the most popular fruits among the agricultural products alongside apple, grape and pomegranate in Afghanistan, which are largely exported abroad. ■
