KABUL, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Police set on fire more than 10.3 tons of illegal drugs in the southern Afghanistan Kandahar province on Sunday, said a statement of the provincial police office released on Monday.
The contraband, which included a variety of illegal drugs such as opium poppy, hashish and other objects used in manufacturing heroin, had been collected during a series of operations over the past two months and was publicly burned on Sunday, the statement asserted.
Police won't allow anyone to cultivate illegal crops or produce drugs in the province, the statement further said.
The Afghan government, which has banned poppy cultivation, drug production and drug trafficking, has vowed to spare no effort in the fight against illegal drugs until the once poppy-growing country becomes drug-free. ■
