KABUL, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- A total of 14 km of gas pipeline has been installed in Afghanistan's Herat province as part of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, spokesman for the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum Humayun Afghan said Monday.
The 1,814 km long TAPI project, designed to transport Turkmenistan gas to Pakistan and India via Afghanistan, is significant for post-war Afghanistan, the official added.
Herat's provincial governor Sheikh al-Islamjar said that 153 km of the pipeline crosses through Herat province, and Herat's local government will do its best to accelerate the work for completion of the essential project.
The project will also create job opportunities for thousands of Afghans, the official said. Endite
