NEW DELHI, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- India's retail inflation slipped to 1.54 percent in September, the latest government data showed Monday.

According to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), the year-on-year inflation rate based on Consumer Price Index (CPI) for September 2025 over September 2024 is 1.54 percent (provisional). There is a decrease of 53 basis points in the headline inflation of September 2025 in comparison to August 2025.

It is the lowest year-on-year inflation after June 2017, said the ministry. In August, the inflation was 2.04 percent.

The year-on-year food Inflation remained negative in the fourth consecutive month, standing at -2.28 percent.

The ministry said the decline in headline inflation and food inflation during September is mainly attributed to the favorable base effect and to the decline in inflation of vegetables, oil and fats, fruits, pulses and products, cereal and products, and eggs.
